With a terrifying pandemic and resulting economic collapse staring us in the face, our team has been working to ensure that our clients understand the current options for employees and businesses. In addition to immediate relief, we are looking ahead to the time when the government will be trying to get everyone back to work.
Ironically, we had previously spent a lot of time thinking about the electric grid and how great it would be if we could just start with a blank slate and build something clean, distributed, equitable, and cheap. We now find ourselves in a world that has been completely turned upside down and stopped in its tracks. For the worst possible reason, skies are cleaner, waterways, like the canals in Venice, are clear, and, according to the BBC, emissions from cars have been cut in half. This will all come rushing back, presumably, when the virus is under control.
We may have the opportunity in this next relief bill to truly stimulate a future for industries that keep greenhouse gas emissions low, while bringing back the economy. Our nation has the technologies and applications to deploy; all of our clients and many other innovators are doing just that. Hundreds of companies, governments, and civil society organizations in the EU just formed an alliance for a clean recovery plan. The U.S. should do the same. We firmly believe that sustained economic recovery can be low-carbon–creating jobs, building new industries, providing lower cost options for consumers, and enabling all people to participate in a cleaner future.
Our team is focused on advocating before and educating our Congress, Administration, and states so that they have the information and solutions they need to make those smart decisions. If your business or organization has questions about your options and opportunities to engage, feel free to contact us.
We wish everyone a safe and healthy spring.
